Free at last, Free at last... Thank God Almighty, I'm free at last! WE'RE HOME! Anyway, we almost didn't make it home. The NP called us when we were 15 minutes away from Iowa City to tell us that he wasn't coming home, so I called Dr. A and he told me he was coming home. It ended up being a disaster, with several people demanding he stay and some of the docs saying he was ready to go. I was so hurt, and it put a damper on our going home day, but after waiting for several hours to find out whether or not we were going home, Dr. A came in and said 'go on home!' so we did!! Emery loved the car ride and being outside of the NICU. He's pretty much slept the whole time, but mommy hasn't. The home care agency met us at the door (Option Care - thanks Wendi!) and I had some trouble with the equipment so I didn't sleep much. The problem with Emery coming home is that he is requiring a significant amount of oxygen (1.5 liters during the day and 2 at night). They don't usually send babies home with that much O2, but Emery's lungs will take years to optimize and that can be done at home. Anyway, I'll give more details as we go along, but as we got on the highway I said "Erik, our baby is with us in the car! He's seriously with us. It's not a joke anymore." Thank you for all of the prayers. Keep praying for us now that we're home! (sorry for the short update.. I've been having internet issues.) Wendy G. I LOVE the hat and baskets. Pics up in a minute!
