Quick lunchtime update. Emery is a confusing little man. The nurse last night was unable to get Emery below 55% oxygen at all. That is the magic number that the docs start to get a 'little nervous' over, at 60% oxygen it is toxic.. at 55% there is little room to go up. They have had babies get sick obviously and they can sit at 100% oxygen for days but that high of oxygen is not good over periods of time. So, they did blood gases this morning. They were beautiful. Emery's CO2 was 44. So, they did a chest x-ray this morning. It was beautiful, in fact even over-expanded. Logically, if his oxygeen needs go up he should be more collapsed down... not Emery. So, they drew more labs... again, nothing at all out of the ordinary. The nurse today did manage to get Emery's oxygen down to about 50% and he's saturating okay. All have said that he does seem to be in a considerable amount of pain. He's a far cry from the happy baby he was over the weekened. (It figures, happy baby and I was working and sick.) As far as Erik is concerned, he just doesn't like it that I get so upset when something goes wrong with Emery. He wants to fix it and can't. As far as me, it's just another day in Emeryville. I guess it's not much different than any other kind of motherhood. Kids get sick. They do wierd things, but in the end they are usually alive at the end of the day. I'm also a firm believer that the longer he's in the hospital the more they will find things wrong with him. I'd have a really hard time trying to kidnap him out the door though with the nitric tank. Oh, they went down to 3 ppm of nitric today since it wasn't making a big difference. I will explain, another time, all of this 'medical' jargon.
