Last update for the day. I started getting a little nervous because Emery was actually riding the vent and not coming out of anesthesia, but he's awake now, extubated, and back on nasal cannula. He's back up to 2 liters and a little high on his FiO2 (at about 60%) but the little guy just had surgery. He's a little fussy. He's still in bay 1 and will probably stay there for a bit (which the nurses love. He's had lots of love and attention from the his old bay 1 family). He's going to get his first bit of food here at 8 o'clock, and mommy realized that she needed to eat something. By about 4 p.m. I started getting a little worried and then profoundly tired and went back to the room to talk to Erik for a bit. He said that he's had calls all day from all of you (thank you all so much -- I couldn't give him a surprise party, but he said he has felt loved and supported all day,he's had strangers even calling him today) and all I kept thinking was what if this was a bad decision. I started playing that second-guessing game in my head about how we were so close to getting home and blah blah. Anyway, when I got back up to the room after a nap he was fighting the vent and trying to extubate himself, so they extubated him. I am profoundly tired and I am hoping and praying that we are all able to leave here in a few short weeks. Dr. W leaves mid-August, and she said it is her goal to have him home before she takes her new position at another facility. I'm okay with that goal!!
