07/17/2007

Okay, people move fast around here. Emery is getting his feeding tube on Thursday around noonish... could be 1 o'clock, could be 2 o'clock. The doctor said "you know how things go. Our time isn't your time." I laughed. Emery's kidney stone surgery was scheduled for 2 o'clock and didn't happen until 7 o'clock. Anyway, once again, I ask you all to keep Emery in your prayers that all goes well. This is surgery #2 for Emmers. He has to go back on the vent, which always scares me, and he has to have general anesthesia, and the surgery has about 10% to 15% risk of infection because it 'isn't the cleanest' procedure. Basically, they have to take a tube down his mouth and then pull it out through a stab incision in his stomach. Three months from now, when the incision site has granulation (scar) tissue, then we will come back and get a mic-key button, which is just a button sticking out of the stomach. Erik and I will need to be trained on how to take care of the PEG tube, which is what he is getting first, and the mic-key button, so that if it pulls out or comes out we need to know how to get it back in. For some freakish reason, this thing bothers me more than a trach. I only say that because I have never taken care of a trach, but messing around with someone's stomach contents, even if they are my son's, is still gross! Anyway, pray that Emery stays free from infection, pray for the doctors, and pray that he heals quickly and comes off the vent fast! This will facilitate getting Emery home to us in just a matter of a few weeks! I can't wait and hope and pray for the day I can post and tell you all we're coming home! Tommorrow, Emery is 7 months old. This has been a looooooonnnnnnnggggggg journey, and yet I hope it will make me a better parent. Much love, Sarah, Erik and Emery
