Well, I don't have much news, and you are all probably surprised to be reading an update from here. I'm just asking that you continue to keep Emery in your thoughts and prayers. Tomorrow we will be going to Iowa City to get his PEG tube replaced with a mic-key button. It's not much of a change. He will still require a feeding tube for a while, but the mic-key button is a skin-level device that doesn't have the 12 inches of tubing hanging down. This is a great thing! No longer will we get the tube snapped in anything, have it hanging out of his clothes, he will be able to wear regular clothes, and... he can't chew on the thing anymore. He simply loves to chew on his feeding tube. This, I call, the circle of life. Anyway, for those of you who followed us from day one, you'll remember that Emery does not do well with anesthesia. He is not getting intubated or going back on the vent, but at the last procedure he received the very same anesthesia and ended up not taking spontaneous respirations for several hours. He was on the vent for this procedure. Please say a prayer that that was a fluke and that Emery will tolerate this procedure like a pro. I think I'd have a meltdown if he ended up back on the vent. Also, pray that Mommy doesn't have a nervous breakdown. He can't have any food by mouth after 9 a.m. and the procedure is 'around 2 p.m.' Mommy is going to go stark raving mad with a screaming baby on her hands. Let's hope he sleeps all day. In Emery news, he got his very first tooth today. He also is now rolling from belly to back fairly regularly, and he had his first followup eye exam which was wonderful news. His eyes look great! The doctor was extremely impressed that he didn't need glasses, especially for someone who once had pre-plus ROP! If, in another 6 months, Emery's eyes look the same we won't go back for another year. Stay tuned, oh loyal followers and Emeryaholics. I will update tomorrow and let everyone know how we are doing! Oh, and U of I buds, if you're wanting to pop down and visit, that will be fine. We're going to be in the pediatric clinic at 1 p.m. and then to the DDC shortly thereafter. You'll see that our little buddy now has hair! Um, he still looks like Daddy though.
