Creepy. I thought I just heard a cat meowing. Turns out, it's the baby crying next door. That's how small he/she is. This is the last update of the day. I just talked to the surgeon and he felt Emery looked well. He is saturating beautifully. I was so bothered by the fact that his saturations are up and down constantly and the nurse made a point today that had never occurred to me. Emery is big. Far bigger than the babies they are used to around here. His feet are too big for the pulse oximeter to get an accurate reading. I have the local fat baby in the NICU. Also, the surgeon wasn't concerned with the fever as it is low-grade, he felt it was more than likely a respiratory issue. Also, his rate has been weaned aggressively that he might be extubated soon. The surgeon said the NICU docs don't mess around at all. He's already on broad-spectrum antiobiotics and they've upped his Tylenol dose. He's comfortable, almost more so than he was in the last few days. Please say a prayer for some parents sitting outside the NICU. They are getting very bad news. I do not know their names or what the situation is since it's none of my business. I only walked by them, but instantly my heart went out. Just include them when you send up your prayers for Em today. Also, our Grateful Dead fan of a doc came by to visit today, just to say hi. He said that everyone has too much time invested in Emery and they are not willing to let anything happen to him, especially if it could be avoided. It made me feel good. He said they were all in agreement about what he needed from a surgical perspective. Oh, and of course he liked the sign on the room.
